A Ready Heart - Joe Castronova
Growing up, my mom and I used to talk all the time. I can still hear her voice saying different things to me as a kid. It is strange how we can remember things like that from so long ago.
I remember as a child how reassuring it was to hear my mom’s voice, especially when I was scared, hurt, or just wondered about things. As I got older, I decided I didn’t want to hear my mom’s voice as much. In fact, there were times when I didn’t want to hear it at all! I knew what she was going to say, and I did NOT want to hear it. So, I never tuned in. Today, I only hear my mom’s voice when I call or travel a great distance to visit with her. My life is full of so many other things now, and it isn’t easy to find the time to spend with her.
For me, hearing God’s voice has some similarities to hearing mom’s voice, and it starts with a desire to listen.
Just like my mom, God always enjoys talking with me. He never gets tired of sharing things He sees in me. She shares wisdom that would help me or others. Sometimes it is just a casual conversation about the weather or my drive home.
I think sometimes, it is easy to make hearing God complicated. God wants it to be simple for us. For me, most of the time it starts with being intentional to listen and bringing myself to God in a simple way of wanting to hear what He has to say.
There are so many times growing up I wish I would have listened more to my mom. She loves me like few people on earth! There are so many times today that I wish I wasn’t so busy and would be able to spend more time with her. She is always for me and sees things that I can’t see.
How much more is our Heavenly Father like this toward us? He loved us enough to create us, die for us, and send His Spirit to dwell within us. Wherever we go, whatever we are doing, He is excited and happy to be there and share with us. He is always available to talk, share wisdom, and guide us toward good things for us and others.

Spiritual Practice
Take time today to sit and wait expectantly for God to speak to you through His scripture or directly to your heart. How often do you just sit in silence and listen to what He might say? What do you hear God saying to you? Write it down to reflect on later.
