Summer of Depth Devotional Day 30
It’s Day 30 of our Summer of Depth Devotional and Reading Plan.
We all have a story. Beautiful, broken, complicated, messy, not-over-yet stories. So, have you ever wondered if Jesus really sees and knows your story? The knee-jerk response is, “Well of course he know’s my story.” But if we’re honest, sometimes we can find ourselves wondering…”Jesus, do you really see what I’m going through, what I’m asking for, or who I really am? Jesus, do you know my story?”
Not just the surface of it, but all the complicated pieces underneath. The parts that are difficult to explain. The struggles that don’t seem to have quick or easy answers.
Today’s passage reminds us that nothing about your story is too complicated for Jesus.

Before anything else, slow down and read: Mark 7:24–37.
What an intriguing pair of miracles. Mark tells us about two very different people.
The first is a mother desperately pleading for her daughter. The second is a man who can barely hear or speak. They come from different backgrounds and carry different burdens, but both are looking for the same thing: mercy.
What’s striking is how personal Jesus is with each of them.
He doesn’t treat them like interruptions or problems to solve. He meets each person differently because each person’s story is indeed…different. With the mother, He invites a conversation that draws out her remarkable faith. With the deaf man, He gently leads him away from the crowd before healing him. Jesus could have waved his hand, and in an instant, both situations could have had the same outcome. But Jesus doesn’t do that. He cares about more than the miracle, more than the healing. He cares about each of these people in a unique, honoring, and deeply loving way. In a world that often overlooked people, Jesus gave them His full attention and care. They were not spectacles to make into miracles performed, these were his children that he wanted to slow down with enough to form.
That’s still His heart today.
Sometimes we wish God would work more quickly or more generally. We want immediate answers and simple solutions. Sometimes we even ask for quick miracles! And while Jesus can and does have the power to do things in the blink of an eye, we don’t always see that happen. More often, Jesus doesn’t rush people. He isn’t running an assembly line. He knows our names, our stories, our fears, and exactly what we need. His care is always personal.
As we’ve been slowing down together this summer, let’s keep wondering together: what if one of the greatest gifts we’ve been given is the chance to notice just how attentive Jesus really is. He doesn’t simply love people. He loves people personally.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for knowing my story completely and caring for me personally. Help me to trust Your timing, receive Your mercy, and follow You one step at a time. In Your name, amen.
