Summer of Depth Devotional Day 23

Welcome to Day 23 of our Summer of Depth Devotional and Reading Plan.

Have you ever felt frustrated by your own limitations?

Maybe you've run out of patience, made the same mistake again, or felt discouraged that your spiritual growth isn't happening as quickly as you'd hoped. It's easy to believe that God must be growing impatient with us too.

But this evening’s passage paints a very different picture.

Now, let's dive deep into His Word.

Before anything else, slow down and read: Psalm 103:1–14.

Psalm 103 is a beautiful reminder of who God is.

David praises Him as the One who forgives, heals, redeems, and satisfies. He celebrates God's compassion and mercy, then says something that is both simple and deeply comforting:

"For he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust."

Think about that for a moment.

God isn't surprised by your humanity. He isn't disappointed to discover that you're weak, tired, or still growing. He knows exactly how He made you. He knows your limits, your fears, your failures, and your need for grace. Nothing about you catches Him off guard.

That doesn't mean He overlooks sin or lowers His standard. It means His compassion is rooted in reality. He sees us clearly and still chooses mercy.

Sometimes we're far harsher with ourselves than God is. We carry shame that He has already forgiven, or we expect perfection from ourselves when God is patiently shaping us over time. We forget that the Father who formed us also walks with us.

As we've been slowing down together this summer, maybe one of the greatest gifts is learning to see ourselves the way our Father does, not excusing our sin, but resting in His compassion as He continues His work in us.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for knowing me completely and loving me still. Help me to receive Your compassion today and trust that You are patiently shaping me into the person You created me to be. In Jesus' name, amen.
