Summer of Depth Devotional Day 43

Welcome to Day 43 of our Summer of Depth Devotional and Reading Plan

Let’s pick back up in the text from a few days ago and continue on…the same passage that Pastor Connor preached from on Sunday. Trust is easy to talk about until tomorrow starts knocking on today's door.

Most of us don't struggle because God hasn't been faithful. We struggle because we aren't sure He'll be faithful again. As you read today, notice that God isn't simply teaching Israel how to gather bread. He's teaching them how to trust Him with what comes next.

Now, let's dive deep into His Word.

Before anything else, slow down and read: Exodus 16:19-36.

The instructions seem simple enough. Gather what you need for today. Don't keep any until morning.

Some of the Israelites ignore God's words and wake up to spoiled manna. A few days later, however, God tells them to do the exact opposite. Before the Sabbath, they're to gather twice as much and keep it overnight. This time, it doesn't spoil.

At first glance, it almost seems confusing. But that's the point. God isn't giving His people a formula. He's teaching them to listen.

For generations, Israel had lived under Pharaoh, where every day was driven by fear, production, and survival. Now they're learning what it means to live with a Father who can be trusted. Some days, trust looks like gathering enough and leaving tomorrow in God's hands. Other days, trust looks like resting because God has already provided what they'll need.

Faith isn't simply doing the same thing over and over again. It's learning to recognize God's voice and responding with obedience.

Maybe that's why God tells Moses to preserve a jar of manna. Future generations would need a reminder that God really did provide in the wilderness. When tomorrow feels uncertain, remembering yesterday's faithfulness helps us trust Him again today.

Practice:

Is there an area of your life where you've been asking God for tomorrow's answer?

Instead, ask Him this simple question:

"Lord, what does faithfulness look like today?"

Write down whatever comes to mind, then take that one step and leave tomorrow in His hands.
